Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth, changing their colour, shape, size, or length. These veneers can be made from porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require the removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.

The Records Appointment:

We’ll take photos of your teeth and smile for diagnosis and treatment planning. We discuss what the procedure will involve and some of its limitations in achieving the aesthetic changes you would like to see. Finally, we take preliminary impressions for models of your teeth.
The Preparation Appointment:

We prepare the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel from the edge and front of the teeth – about ½ millimetre, an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Next, a second model is made of your teeth to construct your veneer, usually taking about 1-2 weeks to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. Provisional veneers, which will cover the teeth while the permanent veneers are being fabricated at a dental laboratory, can be placed for no additional cost.
The Delivery Appointment:

To prepare your tooth to receive the veneer, your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched – roughening the tooth to allow for a strong bond. The veneer will be trimmed for proper fit, and shade-adjusting cement will be used to apply the veneer to your tooth. Afterward, your new smile will be complete. A follow-up visit may be requested to check how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to once again examine the veneer’s placement.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to Get Porcelain Veneers?
Getting porcelain veneers usually involves several appointments with a dentist. At your initial consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your goals for treatment. If you are a good candidate for veneers, your dentist will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the front surface of each tooth. This is necessary to make room for the veneers and ensure a natural-looking result.
Once your teeth are prepared, your dentist will take impressions and send them to a dental laboratory, where your custom veneers will be fabricated. When your veneers are ready, your dentist will bond them to your teeth using a special adhesive.
How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?
Porcelain veneers can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years with proper care, such as regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups.
How Can I Take Care of My Porcelain Veneers?
Taking care of porcelain veneers is not any different from taking care of your natural teeth. You should brush and floss regularly, avoid biting hard objects, and visit your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings.
Can Porcelain Veneers be Removed?
Porcelain veneers are a permanent dental procedure that requires some removal of your natural tooth enamel. While they can be removed, it is not recommended.
